Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to clarify his political allegiance amid his involvement in the cross-party coalition backing President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

Lawal made the call in an interview with Channels Television’s Inside Sources on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The governor said Wike should make a clear choice between supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political parties, arguing that the minister could not simultaneously back APC candidates and candidates of other parties.

“Our message is very clear: be on one side, you can’t be on two sides,” Lawal said, urging Wike to openly support the APC if that was where his allegiance lay.

Lawal added that he would discuss Wike’s political position with President Bola Tinubu when the President returns from his working vacation abroad.

According to him, the governors were asking Wike to join the APC and make his political position clear.

The governor’s comments come amid Wike’s leadership role in the rainbow coalition, a cross-party alliance supporting Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

Wike had previously said the coalition represented a shift from conventional party politics towards a collective political movement focused on advancing the interests of the country.

The Progressive Governors Forum, however, has said it would not endorse alliances or political arrangements that could undermine Tinubu’s re-election bid or the APC’s candidates in the 2027 elections.
