The Joint Task Force North-East, Operation HADIN KAI, has recorded fresh operational successes in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign, rescuing abductees, repelling an attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists, arresting suspected logistics suppliers and recovering weapons, cash and other items across Borno and Adamawa states.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, the military said troops had sustained operational momentum through search-and-rescue missions, intelligence-led operations and coordinated security efforts aimed at degrading terrorist activities in the North-East.

According to the statement, troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion, while conducting search-and-rescue operations in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State on July 7, rescued two abductees from a terrorist hideout.

During the operation, the troops recovered N1.2 million suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities, food items and other logistics believed to have supported terrorist operations.

The military said the rescued victims had been evacuated to a secure location where they are receiving medical attention and psychosocial support.

Operation HADIN KAI also disclosed that troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Logomani in Ngala Local Government Area successfully repelled a coordinated ISWAP attack.

The statement said although the insurgents briefly breached a section of the base's defensive perimeter during the intense exchange of gunfire, the troops regrouped and launched a counter-offensive that forced the terrorists to retreat with heavy casualties.

It, however, confirmed that one soldier was killed during the encounter, while two military gun trucks and some combat equipment were damaged.

"The situation at FOB Logomani remains firmly under the control of Operation HADIN KAI troops, with reinforcements deployed and exploitation operations ongoing," the statement added.

In Adamawa State, troops of the 232 Battalion arrested a suspected notorious criminal in Gombi Local Government Area following credible intelligence.

A subsequent search led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, two magazines and 28 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

Similarly, troops of the 149 Battalion arrested two suspected terrorist logistics suppliers in Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State.

Recovered items included cash, a Volkswagen Golf vehicle, construction materials, household items and other supplies allegedly meant for terrorist groups.

The military also said troops of the 24 Task Force Brigade, working alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, carried out clearance operations around Wulgo, where they recovered a sack containing assorted illicit drugs abandoned by fleeing terrorists.

The statement further disclosed that six suspected ISWAP members, accompanied by their families, surrendered to troops of the 192 Battalion in Sector One.

Preliminary investigations indicated that they escaped from terrorist enclaves in Guduf Bubayagwa and Chikide in the Mandara Mountains of Gwoza Local Government Area.

Items recovered from them included N1.54 million in cash, two mobile phones and other personal belongings.

In a related development, troops arrested another suspected terrorist logistics supplier at Molai checkpoint while transporting large quantities of medical supplies without the required clearance.

Also, troops of the 233 Tank Battalion, in collaboration with local hunters, intercepted and arrested another suspected logistics supplier in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State with five motorcycle tyres allegedly intended for terrorist elements.

Captain Goni said the latest operational successes underscored the effectiveness of sustained offensive operations, credible intelligence and collaboration among security agencies in disrupting terrorist logistics networks and protecting communities.

He assured the public that search-and-rescue operations would continue until all abducted persons were safely reunited with their families, while warning individuals supplying food, fuel, medical items, construction materials or any other form of logistics to terrorist groups to desist or face prosecution.
