The Ogun State Police Command has neutralised two suspected kidnappers and recovered an AK-47 rifle and other exhibits following the successful rescue of the abducted Prince of Okun Owa, Prince Idris.

The command said the operation was carried out by operatives of its Anti-Kidnapping Unit during a follow-up intelligence-led operation aimed at apprehending members of the gang responsible for the prince's abduction.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said Prince Idris was abducted from his residence in Okun Owa on June 30, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m., after armed men invaded his home and whisked him away.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, immediately directed the deployment of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams to rescue the victim and track down the perpetrators.

The police said sustained intelligence gathering and coordinated tactical operations mounted pressure on the kidnappers, leading to the victim's safe release on July 3.

Following the rescue, operatives intensified efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects.

"Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives stormed the Agoro/Imodi axis. On sighting the police, the kidnappers engaged the operatives in a gun duel. The operatives responded decisively, leading to the neutralisation of two kidnappers, while other members of the gang escaped with gunshot wounds," the statement read.

The police said a search of the deceased suspects led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag suspected to have been used to collect ransom, and other exhibits linked to the criminal operation.

The corpses of the suspects have been deposited at a government morgue for autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang and recover additional exhibits, the statement said.

Commending the officers involved in the operation, CP Ojajuni praised the courage, professionalism and operational efficiency of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams.

He reiterated the command's commitment to dismantling criminal networks across Ogun State and urged residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to enhance security across the state.
