At least 25 family members of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters have surrendered to Nigerian troops in separate incidents in Borno State amid intensified military operations in the North-East.

According to counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, four family members of a terrorist surrendered to troops of the 3 Battalion (Marine) at a combat outpost in the Ladiri area on August 30.

Preliminary investigations reportedly showed that the four persons were from Arianna, Koloram Yerwa Kura and Tumbuma communities in Marte Local Government Area.

They were subsequently handed over to the 24 Military Intelligence Regiment for further investigation and necessary action.

In a related development on September 2, seven women and 14 children, said to be family members of terrorists, surrendered to troops of the 112 Task Force Battalion in Mafa, Dikwa Local Government Area.

The publication reported that preliminary investigations indicated that the group fled the Yaganari terrorist enclave amid clashes between rival terrorist factions.

Security agencies are currently processing the surrendered persons in line with established procedures.
