The Progressive Governors Forum has declared that governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress will neither support nor endorse any political alliance or parallel structure capable of undermining President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

The position was announced by the Chairman of the forum and Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, after a high-level meeting of APC governors held at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja on Monday night.

The declaration comes amid growing political activity around the Rainbow Coalition championed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who has maintained that the coalition is primarily aimed at securing Tinubu’s victory in the 2027 presidential election.

Uzodimma, who read the communique after the meeting, said the governors would not participate in, support or endorse any arrangement capable of weakening the APC or adversely affecting its candidates at any level.

“The APC Governors Forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr President, weakening the APC or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels,” he said.

The Imo governor added that the forum’s campaign commitment would remain exclusively with APC candidates, saying the governors would align their campaign structures with the expectations of the President and the strategic objectives of the ruling party.

“In other words, the forum has no intention to support any candidate at any level that is not an APC candidate because our candidates who are contesting the election are being sponsored by our party,” Uzodimma said.

The governors’ position is expected to heighten political tension surrounding Wike’s Rainbow Coalition, which has continued to attract politicians across party lines ahead of the 2027 elections.

The coalition’s activities have reportedly generated competing loyalties in several states, including Rivers, Kwara, Gombe and Cross River.

While Wike remains a registered member of the Peoples Democratic Party, he has repeatedly argued that the coalition is designed to work towards Tinubu’s re-election rather than undermine the APC.

However, the APC governors’ insistence on supporting only candidates fielded by the ruling party underscores their determination to maintain a unified political structure ahead of the elections.
