The Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Igyorov Ward of Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State has suspended the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, for anti-party activities.
According to a letter addressed to the Benue State Chairman of PDP, a copy of which was sighted by HorizonTimes, the National Chairman was suspended with immediate effect, after passing vote of no confidence on him.
In the two pages letter sighted by HorizonTimes, the secretary of the party in Igyorov ward, Banger Dooyum, who was reported to have presented the resolution of the Exco in the letter dated 24th March, 2022, did not sign the letter.
The letter was also not signed by the Chairman of the ward, Kashi Philip; Deputy Chairman, Ortese Helen; and the PRO, Abegena Terhumba; and one of the Ex-Officio Koughir Martha.
Twelve other exco members signed the documents.
According to the Excos, Ayu’s anti-party activities – alongside his allies – contributed to PDP’s loss in his ward and local government in the governorship election.
Ayu is also accused of not paying his annual dues as enshrined by the party’s constitution.
They also alleged that the PDP chieftain did not vote during the governorship and state assembly elections held on the 18th of March, 2023.
According to them, most of Ayu’s closest allies worked for the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) which resulted in the abysmal performance of the PDP in Igyorov Ward.
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State had said the PDP should have suspended Ayu instead of the Party suspending some members after the elections.
Wike spoke in response to the suspension of former governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius, and recommending Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State for disciplinary action.
