University of Ilorin Alumni Unveils 204-Bed Hostel, Guest House Projects
The University of Ilorin Alumni Association has announced plans to embark on the construction of a 204-bed male hostel and a guest house as part of efforts to expand its contributions to the institution and generate sustainable revenue.
The decision was one of the major outcomes of the Association's National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held about two weeks ago at the University of Ilorin Auditorium Basement.
The meeting drew 35 participants, including representatives from alumni chapters across the country.
Speaking at the meeting, the National President of the Association, Professor Abdulrazaq Olubusuyi Kilani, highlighted the achievements recorded by the current administration and unveiled the two proposed capital projects as the next phase of the Association's developmental agenda.
This, he said, follows the successful remodeling and commissioning of its National Secretariat Complex.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Technology and Innovation), Professor Muktar Etudaye
Several prominent alumni and university officials also attended the meeting.
The council commended the Association's strides in infrastructure development, alumni engagement, student support initiatives and institutional strengthening.
It also acknowledged the successful implementation of the EmployableMe programme in Lagos and Ilorin in 2025 and 2026, designed to equip final-year students with employability skills required in the labour market.
NEC praised the Lagos and Kwara State chapters for their outstanding performance and commitment, while noting that several other chapters require revitalisation and stronger membership mobilisation efforts to improve their operations and service delivery.
As part of its resolutions, the council approved steps to strengthen state chapters and branches, encourage the establishment of additional branches where necessary, and review upward the dues payable by graduating students to reflect prevailing economic realities.
The council further resolved to proceed with the proposed hostel and guest house projects through Public-Private Partnership arrangements and other investment opportunities.
A fundraising committee comprising representatives of the Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Ekiti and Delta State chapters was constituted to mobilise resources for the guest house project.
NEC also called on alumni honoured as University of Ilorin Ambassadors during the institution's 50th anniversary celebrations in 2025 to support the Association's developmental aspirations.
Meanwhile, the council condemned what it described as the continued impersonation of the Association's executive committee by individuals not recognised under its constitution.
NEC reaffirmed that the University of Ilorin Alumni Association remains a legally constituted body governed by constitutional provisions and democratic processes, stressing that no individual has the right to hold office beyond the tenure prescribed by the Association's constitution.
