Scores of residents were reportedly killed after suspected armed attackers invaded Sai Community in Mbajir Council Ward of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, Benue State, in the early hours of Wednesday.

Residents said the attackers stormed the community around 2 a.m., moving from house to house and shooting sporadically, forcing many people to flee into nearby bushes.

A resident, who spoke anonymously, said at least 10 bodies had been recovered by daybreak, while several injured victims were taken to a hospital in Katsina-Ala for treatment.

Reacting to the incident, Hyacinth Alia condemned the attack and directed security agencies to deploy additional personnel to Sai and neighbouring communities, launch a manhunt for the perpetrators, and ensure the safety of farmers.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the governor described the attack as a "senseless, cowardly and unacceptable act of violence."

He alleged that it was carried out by terrorists masquerading as herdsmen.

He also expressed condolences to the families of those killed and assured residents that his administration remained committed to protecting lives, property, and agricultural activities across the state.

The Benue State Police Command had yet to officially comment on the incident as of the time of filing the report.
