A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Topa Olusegun Peter, has alleged that he was promised money, a car and a political appointment in an arrangement he believes was intended to manipulate him into creating a crisis within the party ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Peter, the Baale of Olorunsogo, Ilara, in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area, made the allegation in Abeokuta on Saturday while denying that he purchased a governorship nomination form or authorised anyone to present him as an aspirant.

According to him, he was approached by the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imeko-Afon, Ramoni Adebolu, and some other APC chieftains with a political offer, which he said he rejected.

He alleged that he later discovered that his name had been presented as a PDP governorship aspirant despite his denial of any intention to contest the election.

Peter further claimed that Adebolu subsequently advised him to remain calm, promising him financial benefits, a car and a major political appointment if Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, emerged as Ogun governor.

He suggested that the alleged arrangement was aimed at using his name to stir controversy and deepen divisions within the PDP.

The PDP chieftain also denied knowing or authorising Anderson Asemota of Neplus Ultra Attorneys to write to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on his behalf.

The petition had given INEC a 48-hour ultimatum to explain the omission of Peter's name from the list of governorship candidates for the February 6, 2027 election.

Peter maintained that he neither purchased a nomination form nor signed any document indicating his intention to contest the governorship election.

He called on INEC to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged use of his name.

Reaffirming his allegiance to the PDP, he said he had remained a member of the party since its formation in 1998 and had never defected to another political party.

He also maintained that Hon. Ladi Adebutu emerged as the PDP's sole governorship candidate following the party's primary election held on May 24, 2026, which he said he supervised in his ward.

Peter expressed concern for his safety and that of his family, urging security agencies to investigate the alleged manipulation and identify those responsible.
