Mob Burns Islamiyya Teacher to Death in Kaduna Over False Child Theft Allegation
A tragic case of jungle justice has sparked outrage in Kaduna State following the gruesome killing of an Islamiyya teacher, Malama Ummulkhair.
The Islamiyyah teacher was lynched and burnt to death by a mob after being falsely accused of child theft in Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Government Area.
The victim, a mother of four and respected Arabic teacher, was reportedly on her way to attend an Islamic lecture on Sunday when some residents accused her of attempting to steal children.
Witnesses said the unverified allegation spread rapidly through the community, attracting a large crowd that descended on her before security operatives intervened.
According to reports, police officers rescued the woman from the mob and took her into protective custody at a nearby police station. However, the situation deteriorated when hundreds of youths and residents reportedly besieged the station, demanding that she be handed over to them.
Despite efforts by security personnel to restore calm, the mob allegedly overpowered the officers, dragged the woman out of custody and set her ablaze.
The horrific killing has reignited concerns over the growing trend of mob violence and the dangers posed by misinformation and unverified accusations.
Family members of the deceased recounted her final moments with deep sorrow.
Her husband said he had wished her a safe journey as she left home for the religious programme, never imagining it would be the last time he would see her alive.
Relatives described her as a peaceful, hardworking woman devoted to Islamic education and the upbringing of her children.
The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from community leaders, religious groups and human rights advocates, who described the killing as barbaric and a grave miscarriage of justice.
Many have called on authorities to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
Police authorities have since launched an extensive operation in connection with the incident.
More than 80 suspects have reportedly been arrested as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the attack and the breach of security that enabled the mob to gain access to the victim.
