The ravaging outbreak of cholera, which has killed about 30 persons across the country, has hit Ogun State with a fatality in Ijebu-Igbo area of the State.
The outbreak, it was confirmed, claimed the life of a 62 year old woman who reportedly contacted the deadly disease while catering for her infected child.
The incident, which reportedly happened three days ago, has led to three other persons being hospitalised.
In a press conference on Thursday, Dr. Kunle Ashimi, Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Ogun State, acknowledged the widespread impact of cholera, which has affected 30 states across the country, including Ogun.
Dr. Ashimi expressed condolences for the victims, stating, "As of today, cholera has been reported in 30 states, including Ogun State, with at least 30 deaths nationwide. We pray for the souls of the departed."
Dr. Ashimi also confirmed that the NMA is on high alert and that the government has provided a contact number for reporting new cases.
Yhe State Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker, confirmed the fatality in a terse message on WhatsApp.
She also confirmed that 5 other persons have been hospitalised.
According to her, toll free numbers to contact for any symptoms of the dreaded disease include 08038642812, 07034214893, and 0808425088.
In 2023, the state recorded 236 cases and 12 fatalities within one month.
The affected areas included Ijebu North, Abeokuta North, and Abeokuta South.
