Authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have revealed that a total of 1, 301 deaths were recorded during the just concluded 2024 hajj rites out of 465, 000 people who were provided with medical treatment.
It was further revealed that 83% of the number were people who were not authorized to perform the hajj.
They were said to have included elderly persons, people with chronic diseases and those who walked long distances under the sun without shelter or rest.
Both the Minister of Health and Ministry of Hajj, revealed these in separate messages on Sunday evening. The terse messages were posted on verified handled of ‘Inside the Haramain’ on social media.
“1, 301 people died during the #Hajj1445 season, may Allah have mercy on them all 83% of them Are not authorized to Hajj (sics) who walked long distances under the sun, without shelter or rest, including a number of elderly people and people with chronic diseases,” the Minister said.
According to the Ministry, the deceased have been buried in Makkah while communication with the families has been concluded, after their identification,
“Communication with the families of the 1,301 deceased has been completed after their identification, and they have been buried in Makkah,” another message reads.
The Health Minister further revealed that 95 patients without a permit to perform the hajj are still receiving health care services, while some of them were evacuated by air to Riyadh to complete their treatment.
The government made adequare preparation for the sick pilgrims during the hall, all of them were transported to 'arafah when the hajj operation climaxed in ambulances from Medinah to Makkah.
A number of unauthorized persons attempted performing the 2024 hajj, with about 250,000 deported, while 300,000 were denied entry, during the process.
