HBM Nigeria Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability by strengthening its partnership with the Lagos State Government in support of the state's monthly environmental sanitation exercise.

The company said it deployed trucks to assist the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment in evacuating waste generated during the exercise as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

According to HBM, the intervention is aimed at ensuring the prompt evacuation of waste to prevent it from being washed back into drainage channels, thereby promoting a cleaner and healthier environment.

The company also disclosed that waste transported to dumpsites is sorted under its Geocycle operations, with non-recyclable combustible materials separated for co-processing as alternative fuel at its Ewekoro Cement Plant, in line with its circular economy and sustainable waste management objectives.

The sanitation exercise in Kosofe Local Government Area was monitored by senior government officials, including the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Agoro; Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Services, Mr. Mobolaji Gaaji; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Wealth Creation, Mrs. Ola Aina; Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Hon. Moyosore Ogunlewe; HBM Head of Geocycle, Temitope Dosunmu; and HBM Public Affairs and Communications Manager (West), Yemi Bakare.

Speaking during the exercise, Agoro commended HBM Nigeria Plc for its continued support for the state's environmental sustainability efforts and urged other corporate organisations to emulate the company's commitment to keeping Lagos clean.

He stressed that maintaining a cleaner Lagos requires collective responsibility and collaboration among the government, the private sector and residents.
