Toyin Amuzu, a prominent leader of the Peoples' Democratic Party, PDP in Ogun State, has called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to face the growing security concerns rather that political witch-hunt of opponents.
He also called for immediate release of an aide to Ladi Adebutu, the 2023 governorship candidate of the Party in the State, Gaffar Asaolu who was arrested on alleged trumped-up charges.
Amuzu's call comes on the heels of the continuous detention of Asaolu, who was the Director of Finance of the Atiku-Okowa Campaign committee in Ogun State, in the 2023 elections.
Amuzu also condemned the killer squad tag, unfair arrest and detention of Asaolu, only because of his connection to Adebutu, who was also arrested twice by the DSS and police.
Adebutu who was quizzed by the DSS and Police earlier in the week, was later released, according to Amuzu, when no evidence was found against him.
Asaolu has since remains in detention.
Amuzu said, "This is a clear case of political persecution and an affront to democracy.
"The government should focus on addressing the real security challenges facing our state, which include ritual killings, cult clashes and killings, robbery, kidnapping, and political violence especially from the ruling party rather than harassing innocent citizens.
"The illegal arrest and detention of citizens without sufficient evidence is a clear violation of their fundamental human rights."
He called on the government to respect the rule of law and ensure that all citizens are treated fairly and justly.
"The people of Ogun State deserves better, and it's time for the government to take action to address the growing security concerns and put an end to political witch-hunts", Amuzu said.
