The Osun State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday hosted students of Ebunoluwa International School, Osogbo, during an educational excursion aimed at deepening their understanding of Nigeria’s electoral processes and institutional framework.
The visit, which took place at the Commission’s headquarters in Osogbo, provided the students with practical exposure to INEC’s operations, structure, and mandate in conducting free, fair, and credible elections in the country.
Addressing the students and their teachers, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Mutiu Olaleke Agboke, alongside members of the management team, explained the constitutional roles, responsibilities, and guiding principles of INEC.
He emphasized the Commission’s unwavering commitment to transparency, fairness, and integrity in all electoral activities.
Dr. Agboke took time to educate the students on the various stages of election management, including voter registration, Permanent Voter Card (PVC) issuance, deployment of technology such as the IVED and BIVAS devices, as well as election monitoring and result collation.
The interactive session saw the students actively participate by asking questions on key aspects of the electoral process such as PVC acquisition, electoral malpractice, voting procedures, and the importance of civic responsibility.
The REC, visibly impressed by their enthusiasm, commended the students for their curiosity and encouraged them to embrace civic education and grow into responsible citizens who will contribute positively to Nigeria’s democratic advancement.
He also lauded the management of Ebunoluwa International School for their foresight in organizing the excursion, describing it as a laudable step toward nurturing politically aware and informed future leaders.
As part of the tour, the students were taken to the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) unit, where they observed the registration process and learned how eligible voters are attended too.
