Former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo has accused the Ogun State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), of lying over claims that she demanded reimbursement for campaign expenses before leaving the ruling party.

Reacting to Adeola's allegation that she sought a refund of campaign expenses incurred during her governorship ambition, Obasanjo insisted that she never personally made such a demand, explaining that the requests presented to the APC candidate originated from her supporters.

According to her, the delegation representing her supporters conveyed three requests to Adeola during political consultations.

These were the Ogun Central Senatorial ticket, reimbursement of campaign expenses incurred by her political structure, and the inclusion of her loyalists in Adeola's campaign organisation.

"My supporters asked the senator for three things. The first is the Senate seat, the second is the refund of what I spent, and the third is the inclusion of my people in his campaign," she said.

Obasanjo explained that the requests were not personal conditions for her continued membership of the APC, stressing that she merely expected Adeola to respond to them.

"I made no demands. I told him he didn't have to meet all the requests, but he should at least let me know what he could do," she stated.

She disclosed that the requests were formally communicated to Adeola by Hon. Aroyeun, Chief Toyin Jokosenumi and Hon. Biodun Ajayi, insisting that they spoke on behalf of her political supporters and not at her personal instance.

Responding to Adeola's description of the alleged refund request as "insulting", Obasanjo accused the senator of contradicting himself.

"If he thought it was insulting, why did he later offer me money so that I would not leave the party? He has no integrity and is a liar," she alleged.

The former senator maintained that her decision to dump the APC for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was not driven by personal financial demands, but came after Adeola failed to engage with the requests presented by her supporters or communicate what aspects, if any, he was willing to accommodate.

Her response followed Adeola's remarks that some politicians were pursuing elective offices for personal interests rather than the development of Ogun State.

The APC governorship candidate had claimed that an alleged request to refund campaign expenses reinforced his belief that some politicians viewed elections as business ventures rather than opportunities for public service.

Obasanjo, however, maintained that the narrative was false, reiterating that the requests belonged to her supporters and should not be portrayed as her personal demands, while insisting that Adeola's subsequent attempt to persuade her to remain in the APC by offering her money undermined his public claims.
