The Ogbomoso Muslim Consensus Council (OMCC) has issued a firm warning to League of Imams and Alfas in Yorubaland under the name Robitatul A’immah, and its spokesperson over what it describes as unwarranted interference in the affairs of the Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland.
The Council is a broad coalition of Islamic elders, scholars, youth groups and community dignitaries both at home and in the diaspora.
The Council in an official statement declared that the office of the Chief Imam is a “fixed, recognized and community-bound position”.
It further maintained that the imamship in Ogbomosoland cannot be influenced or dictated by external religious associations.
The OMCC stated that Robitatul A’immah “does not possess, and has never possessed,” any supervisory authority over Ogbomoso’s imamship structure.
The council condemned recent comments reportedly linked to the Mudir of Markaz Agege, Alhaji Habeeb Adam AbduLlahi, describing them as “unnecessary, unwise, poorly considered and damaging to inter-community harmony.”
It cautioned that no leader should make statements capable of misleading the public or undermining established institutions.
As part of its expectations, the OMCC called on Robitatul A’immah to publicly clarify that it has no role in the appointment or assessment of the Chief Imam of Ogbomoso, and to refrain from issuing any further statements relating to the town’s religious leadership.
The group also urged the association to strengthen its communication protocols and ensure internal discipline among its representatives.
Reaffirming the unity of Muslims across all five zones of Ogbomosoland, the council declared that the community remains “unwavering in the protection of the Chief Imam’s office” and will resist any attempts to sow division or exert pressure on its religious institutions.
“Peace remains our priority, stability remains our commitment, and dignity remains our identity,” the statement concluded, stressing that the patience of Ogbomoso Muslims should not be mistaken for weakness.
The release was jointly endorsed by several blocs, including the Ogbomoso Muslim Youth Forum, Council of Ogbomoso Islamic Elders, Ogbomoso Ulama & Scholars League, Ogbomoso Diaspora Muslim Network and Ogbomoso Community Dignitaries & Stakeholders.
The Mudit had, during the just concluded conference of the League in Lagos, announced Habibullah Ayilara as the Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland as against the turbaned Imam, Dr Teliat Olusina Ayilara.
