Contrary to claims that the former Governor Ibikunle Amosun built 15 model schools for a whooping sum of N27billion during his tenure, the former governor has said that he only spent N6.9b for the 15 schools.
Amosun, the Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, said the highest he spent on a model school was 830m on any of the schools with two hostels, adding that he spent about N600m on others.
The former governor alleged that the model school in Kobape in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital which he constructed with N650m, was renovated with N3b by the new administration of Dapo Abiodun within 3 – 6 months.
Amosun said the school was completed and fully equipped before it was commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Amosun was speaking while leading the campaign flag off at the African Democratic Congress, ADC in Ogun State, at the event which was held at the palace of Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Ake, Abeokuta.
The Kobaape model school has since been converted to a Tech Hub by governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration.
The former governor further revealed that the model school in Ikenne cost his administration N600m, alleging that same was renovated with about N4b by Abiodun’s administration.
The model school, commissioned by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo during the 40th anniversary of the State was converted to an isolation center by Abiodun’s administration during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Amosun said he was always surprised where the claim of N27b was coming from, despite the fact that the government reviewed over 100 of the projects undertaken by his administration.
“I was wandering, every day, they say Amosun, his model schools, I laughed. They said Amosun spent N27b for model school, I was wondering. These people were the ones who did the probe, they know how much we paid.
“You know why, I am an accountant, the total money that Amosun spent for those 15 model school was 6.9b. You begin to wonder why they are mentioning N27b every day.
“You know the reason? One of them is the Tech Hub, that one we have completed it and it was commissioned by President Buhari and it was fully equipped.
“When they came, the model school that was completed and delivered, it is good to have Tech Hub, they said they renovated it with 3-4b within less than a year, how much was the cost of construction?
“One model school is 750m and anyone with two hostels was constructed at 830m, there is no model school that we paid above N650b.
“We used like N650m and it was completed and the President had come to commission it. Somebody came in within may be 3 – 6 months, they said they want to renovate the place and they spent 3 billion.
“The other one in Ikenne, the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo commissioned it. Perfect, during COVID they spent another 4billion. What I spent on it, N600m.”
Amosun, and APC Senator, said he was supporting Biyi Otegbeye of ADC because of justice, equity and fairness.
