President Muhammadu Buhari has renominated the immediate past Resident Electoral Commissioner of Oyo State, Dr Mutiu Agboke, for a second term as Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Commissioner.
Agboke was renominated, according to a letter from President Muhammadu Buhari to the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmed Lawan, for a second and final term in office, alongside four others, as INEC Commissioner in Nigeria.
Agboke who was nominated four years ago was deployed to Ondo State before he was later transferred to Oyo State where he conducted the last general elections.
Agboke, who represents Ogun State in INEC, was unprecedentedly celebrated by different groups including the Inter-Party Advisory Council of Nigeria, IPAC, and other non-political organisations after completing his first term in office.
Others whose appointments were renewed include Ibrahim Abdullahi from Adamawa State, Obo Effanga from Cross River State, Alh. Umar Ibrahim from Taraba State and Prof. Samuel E. Egwu from Kogi State.
According to the Executive Communication, six other Nigerians were nominated for confirmation as RECs in different states.
They are, Nyeka Pauline Ugochi from Imo State, Prof. Muhammad Lawal Bashir from Sokoto State, Prof. Ayobami Salami from, Oyo State, Amb. Zango Abdussamadu Abdu from Katsina State, Mrs. Queen Elizabeth Agwu from Ebonyi State and Dr. Agundu Oliver Tersoo from Benue State.
The President, in the letter read Tuesday on the floor of the Senate, requested confirmation of their appointment as Resident Electoral Commissioners, RECs, for the INEC.
No date has been fixed for the appearance of the nominees, but the Sentate adjourned proceedings till Wednesday.
