The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, the winner of Saturday’s election in the State.
Professor Kayode Adebowale, the state returning officer, said Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress, APC, scored 276, 298, to defeat his closest rival, Ladi Adebutu of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who scored 262, 383 voted.
Biyi Otegebeye of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, came distance third with 94, 745 votes.
Meanwhile, there seems to be uncertainty over the announcement of the result as the Commission promised to review its position and take a decision within the next seven days.
The promise followed protest by the PDP which called for a rerun following earlier cancellation of result from many polling units, including from over 50 units in Sagamu local government.
The collation officer turned a deaf hear to question by journalists to mention the number of registered voters from the units that were cancelled.
“All what was said is at variance with the record we have here. However, if it is found to be correct, INEC has seven days to review its decision.”
