A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, has presented Certificates of Return to its governorship candidates across the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development marks a fresh chapter in the leadership tussle within the opposition party, with the Turaki-led faction operating separately from the camp headed by Abdulrahman Mohammed, which is aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

At the presentation ceremony, Turaki, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), formally handed over the certificates to candidates selected by the faction for various governorship contests, describing the exercise as a demonstration of the group's commitment to internal democracy and preparations for the next electoral cycle.

Among those who received certificates was Taofeek Arapaja, who emerged as the faction's governorship candidate for Oyo State.

Leaders of the faction said the presentation of the certificates signified confidence in the candidates and underscored their determination to provide what they described as credible leadership, good governance and a renewed vision for national development.

The group maintained that the exercise was an important milestone in its preparations for the 2027 elections and would serve as a springboard for mobilising support across the states.

The latest development comes amid continuing divisions within the PDP, where rival factions have been contesting the party's leadership, structures and strategic direction ahead of the next general elections.
