Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, backed by the Nigerian Air Force and the Civilian Joint Task Force, have repelled an attempted assault by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province terrorists on a military location in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

The terrorists attacked the military position on September 7, 2026, in an apparent attempt to overrun the troops’ location as ongoing counter-terrorism operations continued in the area.

The acting Military Information Officer of the North-East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying the troops resisted the attack with sustained firepower and prevented the terrorists from taking control of the position.

According to him, the terrorists were forced to abandon the assault and withdraw after encountering stiff resistance from the troops, while military positions across Pulka remained firmly under the control of the security forces.

The operation was further reinforced by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, which provided intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance support to the ground troops during the engagement.

Goni said the aerial support enabled the troops to maintain situational awareness and coordinate their response effectively as the terrorists attempted to escape from the area.

He added that air assets subsequently carried out precision strikes against identified hostile elements during their withdrawal, disrupting their movement and frustrating attempts by the terrorists to regroup.

The military spokesman also credited the Civilian Joint Task Force with providing vital local intelligence and supporting the troops in maintaining situational awareness throughout the operation.

“One soldier sustained a gunshot injury to the left arm during the fierce encounter,” Goni said.

He added that the wounded soldier was immediately evacuated, stabilised and was responding to treatment in stable condition.

Following the terrorists’ withdrawal, troops commenced exploitation operations to assess the damage inflicted on the attackers, recover weapons and equipment abandoned during the assault and gather additional intelligence for follow-up operations against the fleeing terrorists.

Goni described the successful defence of the military position as another demonstration of the determination, courage and combat readiness of Operation Hadin Kai troops.

He said the military would sustain pressure on terrorist elements while taking measures to protect civilians and prevent further attacks on communities and military positions in the North-East.

The spokesman also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements and activities to security formations, stressing that timely intelligence from members of the public remained critical to ongoing counter-terrorism operations.

He reaffirmed the military’s resolve to defeat terrorism and other forms of insecurity, protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity and create the conditions for sustainable peace and stability across the North-East.
