Troops Neutralise Three Suspected IPOB Operatives, Recover Arms and Explosives in Anambra
Troops of Sector 5 of the Joint Task Force South-East, Operation UDO KA, have neutralised three suspected operatives of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), during a joint security operation in Anambra State.
The operation, carried out in collaboration with other security agencies, followed intelligence reports indicating that armed criminals disguised in military camouflage and police uniforms were planning attacks in parts of the state.
According to military authorities, the joint security team acted on credible intelligence and tracked the suspects along the Ogboji–Ajali axis in Orumba South Local Government Area on Tuesday.
The suspects, who were reportedly travelling in a white Toyota Sienna vehicle, were intercepted by security operatives, leading to a gun battle during which three of the ESN members were killed.
Following the encounter, troops conducted a search of the area and recovered a cache of weapons and other items.
The recovered exhibits included PKM machine guns with 53 rounds of ammunition, two AK-47 rifles, additional rounds of 7.62mm and 5.56mm ammunition, as well as four improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Security personnel also recovered communication equipment, a laptop computer, the vehicle allegedly used by the suspects, and several identification and financial documents believed to belong to members of the group.
Military authorities described the operation as a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal and insurgent networks operating in the South-East region.
They noted that troops are continuing exploitation operations in the area to apprehend other fleeing members of the group and recover additional intelligence.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment, alongside other security agencies, to sustaining operations aimed at enhancing security and denying criminal elements freedom of action across the region.
It also urged members of the public to continue supporting security efforts through the provision of timely and credible information, stressing that public cooperation remains vital to maintaining peace and strengthening national security.
