A former member of the House of Representative, Hon Abdulkabir Adekunle Akinlade has mourned the passage of Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebuland, who died on Sunday at the age of 91.
Akinlade in a statement by his media aide, Azeez Adelani described the reign of the monarch as a long, impactful and dignified reign.
In a heartfelt tribute, Akinlade, popularly called ‘Triple A’ described Sunday as a "solemn and unforgettable day" for the state and nation, following the death of the Oba.
“Kabiyesi’s passing has evoked a profound sense of loss, stirring reflections on our shared human fragility and the inevitability of death, a journey that awaits us all, whether we are prepared, ripe, or not,” Akinlade stated.
Akinlade extended deep condolences to Governor Dapo Abiodun, the people of Ogun State, the Adetona/Ogbagba ruling house, and the monarch’s family, friends, and associates.
The revered monarch’s death marks the end of a historic reign defined by dignity, wisdom, and decades of impactful leadership over the Ijebu people.
His departure has stirred widespread grief and reflection across Ogun State and beyond.
Prayers were also offered for the late Oba, asking Allah to forgive his shortcomings, have mercy on his soul, and grant him a spacious, light-filled grave.
“Adieu, Kabiyesi Awujale,” the statement ended.
Oba Adetona, who ascended the throne in 1960, was one of Nigeria’s longest-reigning traditional rulers and a vocal advocate for justice, tradition, and good governance throughout his lifetime.
