A trailer belonging to a Company, Richen International, Tuesday evening, crushed a serving member of National Youth Service Crops, NYSC, Pedro Aleem Abiodun, to death in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The incident which happened at the old Owode Ilaro Road in Oke-Ata area of the State capital, also had an Okada rider simply identified as Baba Nla, crushed to death.
Eye witness account had it that the Corps member who was on a bike from Ita-Oshi area had alighted from the bike not far from his house, and was about paying the fare when the trailer hit both of them from behind.
The driver of the vehicle with registration number, Lagos, BDG 789 Y was said to have immediately alighted from his vehicle and having realised that two dead bodies were already on ground, jumped back inside the vehicle, took his phone, before taking to his heels.
It was observed that the number plate of the vehicle had been altered to look like either Lagos, BDG - 789 Y or Lagos, BDG - 709 Y.
The driver was said to have driven recklessly as he was said to had been warned on occasions from Ita-Oshi before he later crushed the deceased few minutes later.
The deceased Corps member, a father of a three-month-old baby, was serving at Al-Wasatiyyah Model School, Obada, where he was just posted.
HorizonTimes gathered from the school authority that Pedro was recently posted to the school and was yet to start teaching because he joined the school during the last term examination period.
Irate youths who were angry by the development, later razed the truck, while some louts also used the opportunity to loot some of its parts.
Efforts of a Police patrol team from Lafenwa Divisional Police Headquarter led by the Divisional Police Officer, to stop the irate youths, proved unsuccessful and the police vehicle was also attacked and stoned.
The development led to a serious gridlock along the road as the youth also made bonfire along the road to prevent passage of road users.
HorizonTimes gathered that the Okada rider who also lived close to where the incident happened, was later buried at his site in the area late Tuesday night, while Pedro was buried at Sabo Muslim burial ground, Wednesday morning.
At the burial, the Chief Imam of Shuaib Central Mosque, Oke-Ata, Ustaz Abdul-Wasi'i Fasasi, revealed that the Board of Al-Faruq Academy where the Pedro's wife works, would offer the three-month-old daughter of the deceased, scholarship up to secondary school level.
Ustaz Fasasi, a member of the Board of the Academy, revealed that the scholarship would be total to include all materials the little Pedro would need to complete her education from primary to secondary school.
