President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Senate.

The nomination, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the Presidency, has been transmitted to the National Assembly for screening in line with constitutional provisions.

Tegbe’s nomination follows the resignation of the former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue gubernatorial ambition in Oyo State.

A seasoned fiscal and economic reform expert from Oyo State, Tegbe brings over 35 years of experience across both public and private sectors.

He is a former Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led initiatives in fiscal policy reform, governance, and institutional transformation.

He has also advised various government agencies and private sector organisations on regulatory frameworks and investment strategies.

Currently, Tegbe serves as Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he coordinates bilateral development efforts between Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China.

His professional experience also includes engagements in the power sector, particularly in regulatory and institutional reforms involving the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.

The Presidency said the nomination is expected to reinforce ongoing reforms in the power sector, with a focus on improving grid stability and attracting sustainable investment in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that, if confirmed, Tegbe would deploy his expertise to drive critical reforms and improve electricity supply outcomes for Nigerians.
