At least three persons were reportedly killed early Tuesday morning in a ghastly motor accident at Iyana Merian Bus Stop along the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway, Ogun State.

The accident involved a Dangote Cement truck, a commercial mini bus, and four tricycles parked at the bus stop to pick up passengers.

Eyewitnesses said the cement truck, which was reportedly coming from the Sango Ota axis, lost control after its brakes allegedly failed, ramming into the mini bus and the tricycles stationed by the roadside.

The impact of the collision was described as severe, leading to instant deaths and widespread destruction of the affected vehicles.

Three persons were confirmed dead at the scene, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical attention.

As at the time of filing this report, one of the corpses was still lying on the road, while another victim was reportedly trapped inside the wreckage of the mini bus, as emergency responders worked to recover the body.

The accident caused a temporary traffic disruption along the busy expressway, as commuters and motorists slowed down while security operatives and sympathisers gathered at the scene.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other emergency agencies were expected to take over the scene for rescue operations, traffic control and investigation into the cause of the crash.

Road users and residents have continued to call for stricter enforcement of safety regulations for heavy-duty vehicles, particularly along the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway, which has recorded several fatal accidents in recent times.
