A 54-year-old primary school teacher, Garba Suleiman, has been arrested by the Adamawa State Police Command over the alleged defilement of a 10-year-old girl in Yola South Local Government Area.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed this on Sunday while parading the suspect alongside other suspects arrested for various offences.

Nguroje said the teacher’s arrest followed a complaint lodged by the girl’s family at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Yola South.

According to the police spokesperson, operatives of the command immediately commenced investigation and arrested the suspect.

He said preliminary findings indicated that the suspect allegedly lured the minor and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.

Following the incident, the victim was taken to a hospital for medical examination, while the suspect remained in police custody.

Nguroje said the Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, had directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yola for discreet investigation and prosecution.

The police commissioner condemned all forms of gender-based violence and assured the public that the command would ensure that justice was served.He also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious individuals or activities to the police.
