Submit your ambition to the will of God - Obasanjo urges Adebutu
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday gave his blessings to the governorship aspiration of the Ladi Adebutu, urging him to pursue his political ambition with wisdom, humility and total submission to the will of God.
Obasanjo gave the charge while receiving Adebutu and other leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party during a private meeting at his penthouse within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta.
The delegation included the party's Ogun Central senatorial candidate, Professor Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, and other party stakeholders.
Although he reiterated that he had withdrawn from partisan politics, the former President said his commitment to the welfare and progress of Nigerians remained unwavering.
He stresses that leadership should be motivated by service to the people rather than personal ambition.
"As for your desire and ambition, I encourage you to pursue them with wisdom and humility. Let your plans align with God's purpose for your life, because it is ultimately God who directs our paths," Obasanjo told Adebutu.
The elder statesman also reflected on Nigeria's abundant human and natural resources, lamenting that successive generations had failed to manage them effectively.
He urged leaders to provide guidance, preserve enduring values and focus on policies that would improve the lives of citizens.
Speaking after the meeting, Adebutu described Obasanjo as a father, mentor and statesman whose counsel continues to shape the aspirations of younger political leaders.
He said the visit was primarily to seek the former President's blessings and inform him of the party's vision for better governance in Ogun State.
"There is no one more deserving to be informed about the future of the state than someone who played a pivotal role in its creation.
"We have received his blessings and wise counsel, and with that encouragement, we are determined to move forward in the interest of our people," Adebutu said.
