Sexagenarian, 2000 others join 5K ‘Ogun Women Race’, Saturday

A 65-year-old woman Aduke Omidiji will, Saturday, join 2,000 other women in this year's annual ‘Ogun Women Run 2023’ in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The Ogun Women Run is a 5km race organized by Brussels Sports Management Limited for adult girls and women in the state.

The race will kick start at the Sapon area of Abeokuta metropolis, will wrap up at the MKO Abiola Stadium, in Kuto.

According to the organizer, the race was organized in order to create healthy living as well as bounding among women of the state.

The winner of the race will go home with 500, 000 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira), while the first and second runner-ups will receive N300, 000 (Three hundred thousand) and N200, 000 (Two Hundred Thousand naira) respectively.

This was revealed at a media parley with the Ogun State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Friday, by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Brussels Sports Management, Seyi Johnson.

According to Johnson, the race was expanded this year due to its acceptability among women.

Also speaking, the Race Director, Ebidowei Oweifie, disclosed that all participants will go home with medals.

According to him, girls and women between the ages of 18 and 60 years are categories of participants that are the real runners gunning for the top prize, adding that over 600 fun runners have also registered for the event.

"The real runners will go home with top prizes, while we have about 600 fun runners who have registered for the race will also go home with gifts as well. The race is for bonding and promoting healthy living. It is to encourage our women to make it a lifestyle."
