The Delta State Police Command has commenced an intense manhunt for a suspect identified as Godwin Vanem, following the killing of Justice Ifeoma Okogwu (Rtd) at her residence in Asaba.
The retired judge was discovered dead last Monday, after a family member visited her home and raised an alarm.
In a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Edafe Bright, Police officers from ‘A’ Division Asaba responded immediately and evacuated the body for further examination.
Edafe confirmed that one suspect, Lucky Matthew, has already been arrested in connection with the incident, while the principal suspect, Vanem, fled the scene before police arrived.
Following directives from the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, Edafe said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section, for what the command describes as a “discreet and thorough investigation.”
He alleged that preliminary findings suggest that Vanem is strongly linked to the killing, prompting the police to launch a state-wide search for his whereabouts.
“The Commissioner of Police has extended condolences to the family of the late Justice Okogwu and assured them that the command will ensure justice is served.”
The police urged members of the public to provide any information that may assist in locating the fugitive suspect.
