The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State, Dr. Mutiu Olaleke Agboke, has urged eligible residents to take advantage of the remaining days of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

He warned that those who fail to register before the July 26, 2026 deadline risk forfeiting their right to vote in the 2027 general elections.

Dr. Agboke gave the charge while monitoring the CVR exercise in Akure South and Idanre Local Government Areas. He was accompanied by the Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Adenike Tadese, and other members of the commission's management team.

Addressing journalists during the inspection, the REC attributed the relatively low turnout at registration centres to the success of INEC's sustained voter education and public enlightenment campaigns, as well as the Commission's self-service online registration platform.

According to him, many eligible voters have been able to commence and complete their registration electronically using Android phones and other compatible devices before visiting INEC offices for biometric capture.

"The relatively low turnout at the registration centres reflects the effectiveness of our voter education campaigns and the Commission's self-service registration policy. Eligible citizens can conveniently begin the registration process online using Android phones and other compatible devices," Agboke said.

The REC stressed that any eligible citizen who fails to register within the stipulated period would be voluntarily denying himself or herself the opportunity to participate in the 2027 general elections.

"Anyone who fails to register before the July 26 deadline is voluntarily denying himself or herself the opportunity to vote in the 2027 general elections," he warned.

He therefore appealed to all eligible Nigerians who are yet to register, transfer their voter registration or update their personal records to do so before the exercise closes on July 26, 2026.

Dr. Agboke also advised prospective voters to return to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) as soon as they are produced and made available by the Commission, stressing that possession of the PVC remains a prerequisite for participation in elections.
