The Ogun State Police Command has arrested eight suspected Yoruba Nation agitators for breach of public peace, unlawful assembly, obstruction of traffic, and assault on police officers in Sango-Ota area of the state.

The suspects were apprehended on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, after a group operating under the name “Democratic Republic of the Yoruba” allegedly barricaded major roads at Temidire Junction and the Under-Bridge axis of Sango-Ota, causing severe disruption to vehicular movement.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the group set bonfires on the roads, obstructed free flow of traffic, and attacked police officers deployed to maintain law and order.

Upon receiving distress reports, police operatives were swiftly mobilised to the affected areas, successfully dispersing the group and arresting eight suspects.

According to the statement, those arrested were identified as Adewale Sosanya (48), Opeyemi Oladotun (31), Zara Gabriel (22), Ajoke Gabriel (19), Adewale Adebomojo (48), Yusuf Tanimowo (40), Olurotimi Ademola (52), and Toyin Gabriel (40).

Items recovered from the suspects included a Toyota Dyna vehicle, two broadcast speakers, a carton containing flags and shirts bearing inscriptions linked to the agitation, as well as banners displaying messages and a manifesto associated with the group.

The police said the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The PPRO further said the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State has reassured residents of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.

He warned that the police would not tolerate any act capable of breaching public peace and stressed that assaults on police officers would be met with decisive action.

The police also urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and to promptly report suspicious activities through the Ogun State Police Command emergency lines.
