The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a man accused of threatening, assaulting and attempting to evict his daughter-in-law from her late husband's home just days after his death.

The arrest was confirmed by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) following a viral video in which the 28-year-old widow, identified as Tosin, was seen crying for help and alleging that she was being attacked.

In the video, Tosin pleaded with those around her to stop dragging her phone, claiming it was later smashed on the floor.

A male voice could also be heard ordering her to leave the house.

Tosin's husband died on July 20 in the Ikorodu area of Lagos.

According to allegations, members of his family moved into the residence shortly after his death and attempted to force the widow and her two sons into a single room.

Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu alleged that the deceased's father and brother had already shared some of his properties and were making efforts to sell his car.

In a statement posted on X, the DSVA said its preliminary findings supported the widow's allegations of threats, physical assault and intimidation.

The agency said it had contacted the survivor and was working closely with officers at the Owutu Police Division, where the matter was reported.

According to the DSVA, the alleged perpetrator has been arrested and is in police custody while investigations continue.

The agency reiterated its commitment to protecting survivors of domestic and gender-based violence and urged members of the public to report similar cases to the appropriate authorities.
