The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old man, Shobande Taofeek, over alleged vandalism and theft of railway infrastructure in the Arigbajo axis of the state.

The arrest, carried out by operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit, led to the recovery of 16 railway iron rods and two gas cylinders suspected to have been stolen.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, saying the arrest followed intelligence reports about the vandalism and theft of railway materials in the area.

According to him, SWAT operatives intensified surveillance and patrols in the affected area on October 23, 2026, leading to the suspect's arrest.

He said the suspect subsequently led the operatives to an uncompleted building, where the stolen items were recovered as exhibits.

Babaseyi added that preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly confessed to participating in similar offences on three previous occasions.

He said efforts were ongoing to arrest other suspects linked to the crime and recover additional stolen property.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, reiterated the command's commitment to protecting public assets, safeguarding critical infrastructure and bringing perpetrators of economic sabotage to justice.

Ojajuni also urged residents to cooperate with the police by providing timely and credible information to support crime prevention and enhance security across the state.
