The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally distanced itself from a report purportedly issued by its Reconciliation Committee and circulated in parts of the media.
In a statement posted on the official handle of the party on Saturday and dated 14th November, the BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, said the document does not represent the official position of the Board.
He noted that it was neither considered nor adopted by the BoT, stressing hat, for this reason, it should not be regarded as a BoT-sanctioned report in any capacity.
Wabara reaffirmed the BoT’s unwavering support for the party’s elective National Convention scheduled to hold from Saturday to Sunday in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to him, “the content of the said Report is not and does not represent the official position of the Board. Having not been considered or adopted by the BoT, it cannot in any form or guise whatsoever be regarded as the position of the BoT.
“Such idea cannot be contemplated as the Board and, of course the PDP, have irreversibly decided for an elective National Convention which is within the scope of the internal affairs of the party to which the courts have no jurisdiction,” he stated.
He stated that the decision aligns with the Supreme Court judgment upholding the supremacy of political parties in managing their internal affairs.
Consequently, the BoT dismissed suggestions advocating the formation of a caretaker committee, insisting that such an idea is inconsistent with the party’s established direction.
The Board, he said, remains firmly committed to the planned convention, which it considers a legitimate internal process beyond judicial interference.
The BoT urged members of the party nationwide to stay focused and committed to ensuring a successful and peaceful convention.
