The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its confidence in the Amb. Iliya Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC) and other critical organs of the party as it prepares for its elective national convention scheduled for November 15-16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Rising from an emergency meeting held on Wednesday, the BoT, in a communiqué read by its Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, said it had extensively reviewed the recent developments within the party and expressed satisfaction with the efforts of the NWC and other stakeholders in stabilizing the PDP.

The BoT welcomed the recent ruling of the Oyo State High Court, presided over by Justice A. L. Akintola, which upheld the constitutional right of the PDP to manage its internal affairs, including the conduct of its national convention as scheduled.

The trustees described the judgment as “a victory for democracy, the rule of law, and political development in Nigeria.”

While acknowledging some internal tensions and regrettable incidents such as the invasion of the party’s national secretariat, the BoT said such events did not reflect the ideals and character of the PDP.

It stressed that it would remain neutral in all internal disputes, emphasizing dialogue, reconciliation, and party unity.

“As the conscience of the party, the BoT cannot and will not take sides but will remain focused on safeguarding the integrity of the PDP and ensuring dialogue over discord.

“The decision for reconciliation is not a sign of weakness but a demonstration of maturity and responsibility,” the communiqué stated.

The BoT also announced the constitution of a high-powered reconciliation committee to mediate among aggrieved members and restore unity ahead of the convention.

The members of the committee include, Amb. Hassan Adamu (North East), Chairman; Chief Mike Oghiadomhe (South South), Secretary; Chief Ugochukwu Okeke (South East); Sen. Zaynab Kure (North Central); Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola (South West); and Dr. Lubna Mohammed Gusau (North West).

The committee has been mandated to submit its report to the BoT on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, for further action.

The BoT reaffirmed that the PDP remains a “united, formidable, and focused political party” and expressed confidence that the forthcoming national convention in Ibadan would further consolidate its strength and internal cohesion ahead of future elections.
