Over 230 golfers from eight States of the federation have arrived Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital for the 2023 Ladies Sign Out and In Golf Kitty at the Abeokuta Golf club.
According to the Abeokuta Golf Club Lady Captain, Adetunji Alaba Oluwatoyin, about 150 male golfers and 80 female golfers will participate in the competition on Saturday.
Alaba said participants from Abuja, Ekiti, Lagos, Rivers, Edo, Oyo, Osun and Kwara states will arrive in Abeokuta on Friday for the practice round and cocktail, while the competition will tee-off on Saturday.
She, however, called for more participation of female golfers in the elite game.
She commended the Chief Host and Captain of Abeokuta Golf Club, Bashorun Oladipo Adegbite for his support towards the successful hosting of the tourney.
“I will also like to appreciate everyone that has donated to the success of the event, we appreciate them a lot. We did not get corporate sponsors but we got a lot of individuals that donated to us, we appreciate them.
“We didn’t get major sponsor for this event, but we hope to get for our next event for the ladies open, there would be a lot of juicy offers for the major sponsors.
“We would be expecting over 300 ladies to register for the ladies open, they are ready to play for the open, while we also have over 150 men. I can tell you with what we have for this inaugural, we are going to have over 300 ladies registered for the open.
“And Abeokuta gulf cause is ready to accommodate over 300 players for our ladies open because it will be a four-day event.
“We thank the captain of the club, Basorun Ladi Adegbite and his team for making the course to be in good shape for the people that are coming to enjoy their love for golf,” she said.
