The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Sunday Bisi, has declared that the party will deploy all its structures to deliver victory for Governor Ademola Adeleke in the 2026 governorship election in the state.

According to Bisi, the PDP does not have any other governorship candidate apart from Adeleke, who is contesting under the Accord Party.

Adeleke, who resigned from the PDP on November 4, joined the Accord Party on December 9 and emerged as the party’s flagbearer.

Despite his defection, the PDP went ahead to hold its governorship primary, at which Adedamola Adebayo emerged as the party’s candidate.

Adebayo polled 919 votes out of the 957 accredited delegates who participated in the exercise held in Osogbo, the state capital, on December 2.

However, all key leaders of the PDP, including Bisi and other elective and appointed political office holders, did not participate in the exercise.

Explaining why the governor left the PDP, Bisi said the move was to protect him from possible disqualification.

He described the defection as a doctrine of necessity, adding that the state chapter of the PDP remains united and committed to delivering victory for Adeleke.

“Adeleke is going to win the 2026 governorship election. The entire PDP structure in Osun will work for his victory. We do not have any other candidate than him, though he is no longer in the PDP.

“The governor’s defection is a doctrine of necessity; you cannot compare it to how other PDP governors left the party.

“We foresaw that, with the way the PDP crisis was unfolding, there was a possibility that Adeleke’s nomination might be disqualified if he stayed in the PDP. So, we needed to play safe on the matter, and that is why the governor is contesting under the Accord Party.”

Bisi maintained that Adeleke’s popularity and achievements would complement the PDP’s efforts to ensure the governor secures a second term.
