The Osun State Police Command has summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, over his viral comment in which he instructed supporters of the All Progressives Congress to “kill” members of the Accord Party.

The summons followed outrage on social media over the senator's remarks, allegedly made during an APC campaign in Ilesa on Tuesday.

In a letter dated August 11, 2026, the police invited Fadahunsi to clarify the circumstances surrounding the statements.

The letter, signed by the Commissioner of Police, Elections, in Osun State, Samuel Etaifo Erale, directed the senator to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo on Wednesday, August 12, at 11:00 a.m.

According to the letter, the invitation was based on information available to the Nigeria Police alleging that the senator made statements considered threatening, inciting and intimidating in nature.

“The invitation is premised on information in possession of the Nigeria Police alleging that during your address at the aforementioned programme, you made statements considered to be threatening, inciting and intimidating in nature, and the statement has already been in circulation on various electronic and social media platforms,” the letter stated.

The controversy followed a video shared on X on Tuesday in which Fadahunsi, speaking in Yoruba, was heard asking APC supporters to kill members of the Accord Party.

“From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them. They have wives and children too,” he was quoted as saying.

Following the backlash generated by the video, Fadahunsi's team sought to clarify the statement, saying the senator's words had been misinterpreted.

In a statement titled, “Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence,” his team said the remark was a call on supporters to reject the Accord Party overwhelmingly at the ballot box through lawful, peaceful and democratic means during the August 15 governorship election.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Senator’s statement was purely political and metaphorical,” the statement said.

The development comes amid heightened political tension ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election under the banner of the Accord Party, has repeatedly accused the APC of deploying thugs to attack and kill his supporters.
