The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State has called on all registered political parties to strictly comply with the Electoral Act 2022 and the Commission’s guidelines as preparations intensify for the 2026 party primaries.
In a statement issued by the Public Affairs Officer, Olurode Musa, on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Olaleke Agboke, INEC emphasized the need for transparent, democratic, and peaceful primaries that genuinely reflect the will of party members.
The Commission noted that many pre-election litigations arise from poorly conducted primaries, stressing that strict adherence to laid-down procedures would significantly reduce such disputes.
According to INEC, party primaries in Osun State are scheduled to hold between 24th November and 15th December 2025, in line with guidelines released by the Commission’s national headquarters.
INEC reaffirmed its readiness to provide all necessary support and oversight to ensure a lawful process, while calling on security agencies and other stakeholders to work with the Commission to guarantee credible and peaceful primaries.
The electoral umpire also warned that it will not hesitate to take legal action against any political party that violates electoral laws or the Commission’s regulations.
“INEC will continue to monitor the activities of political parties and take appropriate actions within the ambit of the law against any party that fails to comply with the electoral laws and regulations.”
