Indigens of Orile Ilawo in Odeda local government area of Ogun State have distanced themselves from what they described as disgraceful and condemnable behaviour of an Obaship aspirant to the stool of Olu of Orile Ilawo, Chief Lawrence Olufemi Ogunsanya.
The indigens under the aegis of ‘Omo Ilu’, in a press statement made available to HorizonTimes in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, while describing him as a bad loser, alleged that Ogunsanya has been causing unrest in the community since he lost the election.
The statement was signed by Omotosho Muyideen, Ogunlolu Monsuru and Oluwadamilare Ridwan Sodiya of Alagbagba village; Segun Onifade of Ilawo Abeokuta and Akinseye Adegbenro of Elegun Mefa village.
About three weeks ago, the leadership of Odeda local government announced the emergence of Professor Olusegun Macgregor as the Iba-Elect of Orile Ilawo.
The indigens alleged that since he lost the election, Chief Ogunsanya has been going around to blackmail all personalities involved in the process of the Obaship election.
It was also alleged that Chief Ogunsanya was on a radio programme where he abused the government and other constituted authorities in connection with the Obaship issue.
The communities however disowned the Chief saying, ‘he is on his own’.
“The concerned Indigens of Orile Ilawo both home and villages under the aegis of 'Omo Ilu' wishes to distance itself from disgraceful and blameworthy act of one of the aspirants to the throne of Olu of Orile Ilawo, Chief Lawrence Olufemi Ogunsanya.
“Chief Ogunsanya is a bad loser. He contested the stool of Olu of Orile Ilawo in a very transparent process paddled by the leadership of Odeda local government, and witnessed by of over 300 Ilawo indigens, but lost to another aspirant to the stool, who has been duly announced as the Oba-Elect of Orile Ilawo by the government.
“Chief Ogunsanya has since been going from pillar to post in his attempt to malign the reputations of highly revered personalities who were involved in the due process which produced Professor Olusegun MacGregor, including the office of the consenting authority of Osile Oke-Ona Egba, Alayeluwa Oba (Dr) Adedapo Tejuoso. No wonder he was nearly thrown out of the Kabiyesi's palace few days ago.
“The reprehensible attitude of Ogunsanya since he lost the election reached its climax on Tuesday when Ogunsanya appeared on a live radio programme in Abeokuta, Fresh FM.
“He threw caution to the wind by abusing all the constituted authorities involved in the process, including the Ogun State government, the Chairman of Odeda Local Government, Secretary to the Odeda Local Government, the Osi of Orile Ilawo and even described the authorized warrant chiefs of Orile Ilawo as riff-raffs.
“For us in Omo Ilu, not only are we distancing ourselves from the uncultured, uncouth and disgraceful utterances of Ogunsanya, for us, enough is enough.”
The communities also apologized to the government, the Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, the Osile Oke-Ona Egba, appealing for quick completion of the process which produced Macgregor as Oba-Elect.
“We use this platform to appeal and apologise to all the constituted authorities that Ogunsanya has tried, though unsuccessfully, to abuse their characters and draw their reputations in the mud.
“We are categorically saying Ogunsanya, as said by a Yoruba adage, is like a dog that's destined for doom which will not hearken hunter's wisdom call. He is on his own.
“Especially to the state government, Baba Alake and Baba Osile, we are sorry on behalf of sons and daughters of Orile Ilawo. Chief Ogunsanya is on his own and his disgraceful character does not represent the values of Orile-Ilawo.”
They also called on security operatives to place Ogunsanya on security watchlist alleging that he has been creating an atmosphere of chaos in the communities since he lost the election.
“We also call on all security operatives in Ogun State to beam their search lights on the activities of this Chief Ogunsanya and his sponsors, one of which is based in Canada and whose identity will be revealed in due cause.
“These characters have been doing everything humanly possible to create an atmosphere of chaos in Orile Ilawo since Ogunsanya lost the election."
