The Ogun State Police Command has foiled a suspected cult initiation in Owode-Yewa, arresting three students aged 12, 18 and 18, and recovering weapons and other items allegedly intended for the activity.

The operation followed intelligence received on Thursday, about a planned cult-related gathering tagged “Kito Day,” involving students from different secondary schools in the area.

Acting on the information, the Divisional Police Officer in Owode-Yewa swiftly deployed detectives, in collaboration with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, to the location, leading to the arrest of the three suspects.

Items recovered during the operation included an English axe, two knives, a short cutlass, a rubber toy gun and a school bag.

The police said the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Friday, October 23, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The command’s intervention underscores the importance of timely intelligence and collaboration between security agencies and local vigilante groups in preventing suspected criminal activities and safeguarding students and residents.
