The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed a set of viral video clips circulating on social media that suggest imminent attacks on communities and tertiary institutions across the state, describing them as fake and artificially generated.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Command said forensic analysis conducted by its cybercrime and intelligence units confirmed that the videos were created using artificial-intelligence tools by yet-to-be-identified individuals.
Investigators also traced the earliest version of the clips to a foreign online platform about three months ago, after which altered versions began to circulate locally.
According to the police, the videos did not originate from any known terrorist organisation or operational cell, nor is there any credible intelligence indicating planned attacks in Ogun State.
“The Command is working with determination and precision to uncover the identity of the individual or network responsible for generating and circulating these misleading video clips,” the statement said.
To further reassure the public, the Commissioner of Police has ordered heightened surveillance, increased patrols, and continued collaboration among security agencies across the state.
Residents were urged to remain calm, avoid sharing unverified content, and report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation.
The Command reaffirmed that Ogun State remains safe, stable, and fully secured, stressing its commitment to protecting lives and property.
