The Ogun State Police Command has arrested seven suspects in separate intelligence-led operations across the state, recovering a stolen Toyota Venza, three firearms, and an operational vehicle allegedly used by a "one-chance" robbery syndicate.

Also recovered in the operations are 17 stolen mobile phones, a laptop, and ₦1.1 million linked to an alleged travel fraud.

The Command said the operations, carried out across the Ilaro Area Command and the Ibafo, Mowe, Adatan and Ode-Remo divisions, form part of its sustained offensive against criminal activities under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni.

Those arrested, according to a statement, were identified as Bola Salau, 42; Segun Balogun, 25; Emmanuel Friday; Tunde Abioye; Ankpa James; Tunde Ogunseye, 41; and Owodunni Seun, 36.

According to the Police, the coordinated operations led to the recovery of a stolen Toyota Venza, two locally fabricated pistols, one locally made Dane gun, a Toyota Camry allegedly used by a one-chance robbery gang, 17 stolen mobile phones, an HP EliteBook laptop, two expended cartridges, three power banks, a rechargeable touch light, and ₦1.1 million recovered from an alleged travel fraud suspect.

The police said operatives of the Ilaro Area Command intercepted a blue Toyota Venza during a stop-and-search operation along the Oja-Odan/Ilaro Road in Olorunlekan, Ilaro.

The occupants, Bola Salau and Segun Balogun, reportedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for their possession of the vehicle.

The statement further said that a search on the vehicle led to the discovery of the vehicle's original registration documents concealed beneath the carpet.

Police investigations traced the rightful owner to Ede, Osun State, where he confirmed that the vehicle had been stolen during an armed robbery at his residence last Tuesday.

Detectives said efforts were ongoing to establish the suspects' involvement and apprehend other members of the robbery gang.

In another operation, detectives attached to the Ibafo Division arrested one Emmanuel Friday and Tunde Abioye over their involvement in a one-chance robbery syndicate operating around the Magboro axis.

The arrests followed a complaint by a female victim, who reported that she was robbed of her Samsung A16 mobile phone valued at ₦295,000 and ₦120,000 in cash.

Acting on intelligence, detectives tracked the suspects to a hotel in Magboro, where they were arrested.

A Toyota Camry used for the operation was also recovered, while the victim reportedly identified the suspects.

Police said efforts were ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the syndicate.

Operatives of the Mowe Division also arrested Ankpa James following allegations that he fraudulently collected N1.276 million from a 21-year-old man under the pretext of facilitating his travel to Luxembourg.

The suspect was arrested after a distress report was received through the Command's Gateway Shield emergency platform.

Police said James admitted involvement during interrogation, while N1.1 million was recovered and released to the complainant on bond.

A joint operation involving officers of the Adatan Division and other security agencies led to the arrest of Tunde Ogunseye, who allegedly attempted to attack security operatives with a locally fabricated pistol.

The police said he was subdued and disarmed, while a subsequent search of his residence yielded another locally fabricated pistol.

Investigators further alleged that Ogunseye is a member of the Eiye Confraternity and is involved in illicit drug trafficking.

He has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

In a similar exercise, police patrol teams in Ode-Remo supported by local vigilantes, foiled an armed robbery targeting students at Itun-Raye following a distress call.

The hoodlums reportedly fled into a nearby bush upon sighting security operatives, abandoning several items, including a locally made Dane gun, two expended cartridges, an HP EliteBook laptop, 17 mobile phones comprising nine iPhones, seven Samsung Android devices and one Itel phone, alongside other personal belongings.

During a follow-up operation, officers arrested Owodunni Seun, who was allegedly found loitering around the crime scene under suspicious circumstances.

Police described him as a habitual offender previously convicted for receiving stolen property and said he is assisting ongoing investigations.

Commending the officers involved, Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the Command's commitment to intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention and collaboration with other security agencies.
