The Ogun State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Abayomi Tella, has launched a scathing assessment of Governor Dapo Abiodun's administration, describing any discussion of the government's performance as "a waste of time".

He however urged residents to vote the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) out of office in the 2027 governorship election.

Speaking on Frontline, a current affairs programme on Eagle 102.5 FM, Ilese-Ijebu, on Wednesday, Tella maintained that the PDP remained the most credible alternative for the state.

He insisted that the APC administration had failed to meet the expectations of Ogun residents.

"It would be a mere wasting of time talking about the administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun. Every individual in Ogun State tells you he did not do well. It's as simple as that. And the alternative is PDP and we are coming on board," he said.

The PDP chairman argued that effective governance must begin at the grassroots, contending that no administration could succeed without strengthening local government administration.

According to him, successive governments after the PDP left office had failed to empower local councils, a development he said had weakened service delivery and slowed development across the state.

"Any government that does not make the local government administration work can never be a good government because every policy is local.

"The only government that did that in this state is PDP. Every other one that has come thereafter does not get it right," Tella stated.

He promised that a PDP administration would restore local government autonomy, arguing that revitalising local councils would significantly improve governance and ease the economic hardship faced by residents.

Tella also criticised the Abiodun administration's handling of critical sectors, including education, healthcare and rural infrastructure, alleging that government attention had been disproportionately focused on projects within Abeokuta metropolis while rural communities remained neglected.

He rated the administration's infrastructure performance below average and described its record in education as poor, accusing the government of concentrating on cosmetic renovations in urban schools while ignoring the broader educational needs of the state.

While acknowledging the completion of the Gateway International Airport at Iperu, Tella credited former Governor and Senator Gbenga Daniel with initiating the project and Governor Abiodun with completing it.

He described the airport as the only major achievement for which he could give the administration some credit, saying every other sector had recorded less than satisfactory performance.

On pension administration, the PDP chairman accused the current government of neglecting retired civil servants and pledged that a PDP government would prioritise the welfare of pensioners if elected in 2027.

He promised prompt payment of pensions and gratuities, as well as the clearance of outstanding arrears, arguing that retirees deserved dignity after years of service to the state.

Tella recalled that pensioners maintained a cordial relationship with the PDP administration while it was in power, insisting that retired workers would once again receive priority attention under a future PDP government.

He also expressed optimism about the PDP's chances in the 2027 governorship election, claiming the party had overcome its internal challenges and was now united.

According to him, several prominent political figures currently in the APC, including Governor Dapo Abiodun, former Governor Ibikunle Amosun and Senator Gbenga Daniel, all began their political careers in the PDP, suggesting that many of them could eventually return to the party.

The PDP chairman predicted that the 2027 election would produce a major political upset, expressing confidence that the opposition party would reclaim power in Ogun State.

He further maintained that the party's national leadership crisis had largely been resolved and affirmed that the Ogun State chapter remained united, focused and fully prepared for the next general election.
