The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, has disowned a body known as the League of Yewa-Awori Media Practitioners (LOYAMP), declaring that it is not a recognised organ, chapel, affiliate or professional association under the council.

In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the council, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, and the Secretary, Comrade Bunmi Adigun, the union stated that no group bearing the name League of Yewa-Awori Media Practitioners (LOYAMP) exists within the constitutional structure of the NUJ in Ogun State.

The council stressed that the group has no authority or mandate to present itself as representing journalists or media practitioners in the state.

According to the statement, the only duly recognised NUJ chapel serving the Yewa-Awori axis is the Ota Independent Online Chapel, whose members, it said, are professional journalists of proven integrity providing credible news coverage across the Ogun West Senatorial District.

The council reaffirmed that the NUJ remains the only recognised umbrella body for practising journalists in Ogun State and pledged to continue safeguarding the integrity, ethics and professionalism of the journalism profession.

It, therefore, advised members of the public, government institutions, corporate organisations and other stakeholders to disregard any claim by LOYAMP suggesting that it speaks on behalf of journalists or media practitioners under the auspices of the NUJ, Ogun State Council.

The council reiterated its commitment to protecting the credibility of the journalism profession and ensuring that only duly recognised professional bodies operate under the banner of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Ogun State.
