Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council has blacklisted the activities of the National Association of Nigerian Students in Ogun State following an attack on a journalist on Thursday.
Jide Osoba, a young journalists with an online platform, News Angle online, was allegedly attacked by members of the Association during the May Day Celebration at June 12 Cultural Center in Kuto, Abeokuta.
Narrating his ordeal, Osoba hinted that his attack was supervised by a Special Assistant to Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun.
Osoba, who was pictured with bloodstain on his face and hand lamented that he didn't know what his offence was.
Reacting to the incident in a statement signed by the Secretary of the Union, Bunmi Adigun, the NUJ condemned the attack and demanded immediate accountability on the side of the attackers.
NUJ leadership emphasized that the safety of journalists is paramount and vowed to protect the interests of its members.
It urged NANS to cooperate in the investigation and ensure that such incidents do not recur in the future.
The statement read, "The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ogun State Council has taken a firm stance following the alleged assault on a journalist and a member of the Union, Olajide Osoba by supposed students and members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Ogun State.
"In response to the incident, which occurred on Thursday, at the June 12 Cultural Center, Kuto, venue of the 2025 May Day celebration, the leadership of Ogun NUJ has ordered a temporary blacklist on all coverage of activities by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) until a thorough investigation is conducted.
"The decision was announced after reports surfaced detailing the assault, which raised serious concerns over the safety and security of journalists while performing their duties.
"The NUJ condemned the attack and called for immediate accountability for those responsible.
"This directive reflects the NUJ’s commitment to maintaining a safe and conducive environment for media practitioners in Ogun State and across Nigeria."
