Ahead of the 2023 governorship election in Ogun State, the African Democratic Congress, Monday, received a boost with the open declaration of the former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, for its candidate, Barrister Biyi Otegbeye.

Amosun, during a live interview by the BBC Yoruba monitored by HorizonTimes declared his support for Otegbeye of the ADC while reiterating his resolve not to support the governorship candidate of the Party and his successor in office, Dapo Abiodun.

Amosun, a member of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council said he was not backing Abiodun because of the manner the Governor treated his (Amosun) supporters.

The former Governor who is still a member of the APC and Senator representing Ogun Central at the National Assembly said he won’t allow his supporters who contributed more than 80% to building the party to be discarded by anyone.

He said, “For the presidential election, I can assure you, all the factions in Ogun State, even if you say we have four or three factions, in my mind, we all have the same candidate.

“I believe we all have a single candidate even when I don't know other people's minds, but I want to believe all of us have the same focus on the presidential election.

“But for the governorship election, it is a different ball game, I don't agree with APC and I won't support APC.

“You know I told you that there is no single week, if I don't come home, I am not comfortable, it is because of our people. All these people have worked tirelessly, day and night, for APC and even they have stood with APC and they are not being treated fairly.

“There's nothing you want to say about APC in Ogun State, I can confidently say that we contributed 70 - 80% or even more with the support of God, but somebody cannot just come and discard all those who worked for the party, it won't work.

“We are not God, but I don't hide behind a finger, this is what people say about me that there are some things I shouldn't say publicly, but this one, we have to come out clean and I have done that.

“On the presidential election, that is where I belong, I belong to APC, but for the governorship election, we are not together and I know my people are doing their own separately and it is not in secret.

“I am behind Biyi Otegbeye of ADC.”
