The Ogbomosoland Muslim Community has reaffirmed the leadership of Sheikh Dr. Teliat Yunus Olushina Ayilara II as the Grand Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland, dismissing circulating claims suggesting that the community had requested his removal.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the community emphasized that the Imam was duly nominated by the Ayilara family and endorsed by the late Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Dr. Jimoh Oladunni Oyewumi Ajagungbade III.
The community, in the statement signed by the Chairman of the Ogbomosoland Muslim Community, Alh. Chief Akintoye A. Saliu, and the Secretary, Alh. Bashiru Olatunji, stated that the recognition remains valid and undisputed.
“The Ogbomosoland Muslim Community firmly affirms Sheikh Dr. Teliat Yunus Olushina Ayilara II as the Grand Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland,” the statement read, stressing the legitimacy of his appointment.
The leadership further clarified that no petition or complaint had ever been submitted to any individual or group seeking the Imam’s removal.
According to the statement, reports suggesting otherwise are “false and aimed at causing disruption within the community.”
Calling for calm amid ongoing legal proceedings, the community urged both Muslims and non-Muslims in the area to remain peaceful as the matter is currently before the court for appropriate adjudication.
“We appeal to all well-wishers to remain calm and peaceful, as the issue is now before the court for proper judgment,” the release added.
The community concluded by praying for wisdom, sincerity of purpose, and guided actions to ensure lasting peace and progress in Ogbomosoland.
